Sea Island Splendor: A Family Retreat by James T. Farmer

Have you picked up a copy of the July/August 2018 House Beautiful magazine yet? If not, you are missing out on some especially beautiful interiors and need to get one ASAP to sit down and read this weekend over a cup of coffee. I promise you will thank me! Not only is the Mark D. Sikes cover one of the prettiest covers I have seen in a while, but this issue also showcases one of my favorite James Farmer projects, a revamp of a Sea Island vacation home. The same home was featured in his book  A Place to Call Home-Timeless Southern Charm and I was like a kid in a candy shop when I heard it was in this issue of House Beautiful.

I adore Sea Island, Georgia, and love everything James Farmer, so I was swooning the entire time reading the article and knew I had to share a tour with you all on the blog. Farmer is known for his innate ability to design rooms and gardens that are a blend of low country charm with refined traditional Southernal style. He masterfully incorporates antiques and family heirlooms while still keeping his spaces chic and fresh. Farmer also goes to great lengths to reflect the historical traditions of the area where his projects are located. In the House Beautiful article he explains how Sea Island has strong British colonial ties which he expertly echoes through his use of drop leaf tables, chinoiserie, and English antiques.

Simply put, this Sea Island retreat is splendid and as you pour through the pictures you can’t help but imagine you could hop through the pages and be right at home sipping a sweet tea on the front porch with the owners. I know earlier in this article I said you should read the issue over a cup of coffee but if you have some sweet tea on hand, grab that instead! Have a great weekend!
